We live in a competitive society. Everybody wants to be smarter, prettier, richer, stronger, skinnier, etc., etc. Not surprisingly we want to develop our brain power to the max too. For almost 20 years now we;ve been hearing about “The Mozart Effect” and learning that music really can have a profound effect on the brain, whether it’s Mozart or not!
One of the easiest ways to use music to improve your brain function is simply to MAKE music either with your voice or with an instrument. You say you don’t play or sing and don’t have time or money for lessons? OK, how about just put on some music and wave your arms around in time to the music! There is actually research that shows this can be beneficial. Or pick up a couple of pencils, eraser-end down, and torn over a bucket and just so a little free-form drumming on that. You get the idea!
If you do play an instrument, dust it off and start reviewing how to get music out of it again, or if you’ve always wanted to play the piano, or the violin, or the banjo, go ahead and contact your local music store. Chances are that they can hook you up with a teacher of beginner lessons in whatever you want to learn more about!
Do it now! Your brain will thank you!
