Colonoscopy with Music: it makes a difference!

Colonoscopy with Music

Nobody wants to have a colonoscopy, but having a colonoscopy with music can definitely make a difference.  As we Baby Boomers move into our 60’s and beyond, having a colonoscopy is inevitable.  It’s also highly recommended as a proven way to prevent colon cancer by catching it really early.

On the morning of July 20, 2016 I was driven to Baptist Hospital East here in Louisville, KY to have a colonoscopy.  I just wanted to get it over with.  I knew that I would use my Surgical Serenity Headphones.  (Since I created them in 2009, I have not had a serious occasion to use them, which is a good thing!  I’m a very healthy person and just don’t have surgery or painful medical procedures.  STILL, because I work in a medical setting, I see people every day who are scared to death of upcoming surgeries and the pain and long recovery times that will follow.)

So I charged my headphones on the night before and took them with me to the hospital, hoping that staff would allow them and not object.  As soon as I checked in at the patient desk, I took a seat in the waiting area and put my headphones on.  My attention was immediately taken away from the other patients in the waiting room and their conversations of fear and anxiety, and was put on the music, soothing, calming music on the headphones.  By the time they called me back to pre-op about 45 minutes later, I felt like I could go right to sleep with no medication!

Of course everyone wanted to know about the headphones and where I got them.  😉  It was really fun telling them that I had created them myself and gotten a U.S. Patent on the process of how to choose the music for surgery.  The anesthesiologist said that I obviously didn’t need anything for anxiety and so I was wheeled into the procedure room wide awake.  Even when answering their questions, I could still hear the beautiful, soothing music.  Soon, the anesthesiologist administer the Propofol intravenously and I was out.

About 45 minutes later, I woke up quickly and easily with no nausea or brain fog.  I was wide awake and ready to go home and have some breakfast, after not eating anything solid for 36 hours.  The entire staff was so pleased to find out about the headphones and I was absolutely thrilled!  If you have a colonoscopy in your future, just go to www.SurgicalSerenitySolutions.com and choose your headphones!  You’ll be glad you did!
